There are many dough recipes. Some require specific types of flour like Italian 00, or a specific type of yeast for best results. But unless you own a restaurant and want to impress the critics then this recipe is the only one you will need. Bread flour works just as well as all purpose flour. Dry yeast packets that you buy at your local grocery store will work just fine. This is a fun and easy dough recipe for anyone to make.
Multi-purpose Dough Recipe
3 Cups Flour
1 Cup warm water
1 packet yeast
In a bowl put yeast and water. I use the mixer bowl for this. One less bowl to wash.
Let set for 5 minutes.
Secret: Use warm water. If too hot yeast will die. Secret: If alive, yeast will form a “nuclear cloud” in the water. Then you know you bought a good packet of yeast. If yeast are old they may be dead and will not work. And dough will not rise. In this case you must start over.
Add the 3 cups of all purpose flour
Set up an electric stand mixer with a dough hook attachment. At low speed mix ingredients together until dough forms. Or go old school and kneed dough with your hands until firm. Use extra flour on table top so dough does not stick if you decide to hand roll dough.
Cover and let rise at room temp for 1-2 hours until double in size.
Now the dough is ready to use! You can cover the dough in a bowl with plastic wrap and use it later. Or put dough in a plastic zip bag and store in your fridge for a few days. Or you can freeze it in the plastic bag for a few weeks.
