No Uber service in this city! Checked in to the downtown Westin Hotel. Had breakfast there. Nice views from restaurant.  Hotel reminded us of NYC in that it is cramped for space. But my suite had a wonderful view. Across the street is Straight out of Brooklyn pizza. Believe it or not amazing pizza. As good as Motorino in Brooklyn. Walked around the famous library building next door. Took a tour of the rain forest. Amazing and a must see/do when you are there. Only about a 20 minute bus ride from downtown. The dinner at Bauhaus. I love tasting menus. Bauhaus in downtown Vancouver, Canada offers a six course $99 CAN tasting. This industrial interior has a welcoming vibe. Not usual for this decor. Lets eat. Love the fact that bread was served without having to ask for it. A crusty hearth oven bread served with proper room temperature butter. A seafood amuse bouche set the pace. It is so important to serve a complementary amuse bouche at this price range when other restaurants miss this key point. Hamachi with plankton sea vegetables and cucumber was a sour refreshing first course. A fishy tasting lobster bisque was reluctantly replaced with a superb root vegetable and apple puree topped with black truffles. Lamb harissa pistachios eggplant was a miss. The 13 hour roasted lamb was dry. Too bad. The ravioli black truffle egg onion puree also missed the mark. The onion puree was the only flavor that prevailed. The ravioli was tasteless. Elk steak was perfect. Finished with a divine apple pudding like dessert. Not everything was a hit. But the serving vessels and outstanding plating presentations make Bauhaus a contender if done right, with any top fine dining restaurant in the world. off to bed. Day 2 breakfast in hotel. Site seeing tour of the city by bus, Well worth the price. Went around a second time. Then lunch at Fat Burger. Not good. Walked around the shopping area. Saw the famous steam clock go off. Dinner at the high class Hawksworth restaurant. Located in a beautiful hotel. Worth a look at and maybe a stay next time. A $125pp tasting menu was our choice. Food was OK. Bauhaus was better even with its misses. Back to Brooklyn pizza for a slice – Shalom McCool
